Ezer (pronounced with a long a as in razor) is a Hebrew military word meaning strong helper. Ezer is used in the Bible most often for God as Israel's helper in time of need. God calls the woman "ezer" when he creates her to join the man in battling the Enemy and spreading God's gracious kingdom throughout the earth. The ezer is a warrior for God's good purposes in the world. 

"The Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper [ezer] suitable for him."
